Inclusive Education

The Choice School has an Inclusive Education policy as per the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act 2016 and guidelines laid down by CBSE. The Choice School take a Rights based perspective towards Inclusive Education. Inclusive teaching methodologies are used in the mainstream classrooms to cater to all students regardless of their abilities.

As a frontrunner in Inclusive Education in Kerala, The Choice School established The Department of Health, Development and Education Support (HDES) in 2015. The department provides support to students with Special Educational Needs (SEN) from Kindergarten to Grade 12.

HDES consists of a team of Special Educators and Speech Therapists. They screen, assess, prepare Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and provide Special Education and Speech and Language Therapy to students with special educational needs.

Intervention is provided to SEN students during class hours (in-class or on a one-to-one basis) on academic and non-academic skills.

The team works in tandem with the mainstream teachers and school counsellors to adapt classroom teaching, to provide accommodations based on the students’ needs and ensure emotional, social and psychological well-being. The team works closely with parents and other professionals and therapists involved in the students ‘educational progress. 

Intervention is provided using evidence-based approaches and methods suited for areas of needs like communication and interaction, cognition and learning, behaviour, emotional and social development, sensory and/or physical. These include:
