Children are natural born helpers. At Choice School, we believe in building empathy in our children for people around them since it is a critical social and emotional skill. We also understand that helping others gives children a feeling of empowerment, which in turn builds their confidence and self-worth.
Through open dialogue, thoughtful conversations and age-appropriate explanations, the curriculum at our school encourages our children to give. It is ensured that a lot of our discussions are “others-centred”, focused on how their giving benefits those who are being helped, in order to emphasize the significance of charitable giving. And the fact that our school is an inclusive one, makes it easier for us to develop all the above mentioned qualities in our children.
Days before Christmas, the school is a beehive of activity with students across the sections holding Bake sales, Food Festivals and getting involved in other activities to collect money and other necessary items to give to our less fortunate brethren.
This year, the students of Senior School took ownership of their charitable actions and donated a part/whole of their pocket money towards buying groceries and clothes for inmates of Missionaries of Charity – Nirmala Shishu Bhavan, Kaloor and Missionaries of Charity- Sneha Sadan, Pookkattupad.
Likewise, the students of the Middle School held a food fest, collected an amount of more than Rs 40,000 and donated bedsheets and Rs. 15,000 to Sree Poornathrayesha Bal Ashram, Tripunithura. They also donated groceries and clothes to the Evangel Ashram, Koonammavu, Ernakulam. The Student Council members of the Middle school went on a stationery collection drive and donated the collection to the children of St. Teresa’s orphanage, Ernakulum and Ashwas Bhawan, Fort Kochi. They also collected grocery items and gifted them away to the inmates of Good Hope Old Age Home, Fort Kochi
